Reno - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Reno's queer infrastructure is small but easy to find. The central address is Our Center, Northern Nevada's LGBTQ+ community center at 1745 South Wells Avenue. It opens on weekdays from late morning into the evening and on weekend mornings. The center runs support groups for trans youth and adults, groups for seniors, programs for families, prevention projects and case management where people can ask for help. If you are new in town or just visiting for a few days, the staff can also tell you what is happening in the community.

Our Center also keeps a list of regional resources, including health services with sliding-scale fees, counseling services and crisis lines. Volunteers are welcome, and the rooms can be reserved for group meetings.

For a night out, the 5 Star Saloon downtown is the best-known address. It is considered Reno's longest-running gay bar, has a large dance floor with a stage and is known for its drag shows. The crowd is mixed and the mood relaxed.

Once a year, in September, the community takes over the city center for Northern Nevada Pride. The parade is followed by a festival in Wingfield Park on the Truckee River, with a stage program and plenty of booths from community groups and health services. Our Center produces the event, and the proceeds fund the center's work.

Anyone looking for a bigger scene with several bars and clubs will find it in San Francisco, a few hours' drive west across the Sierra Nevada.
