Savannah - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

The main LGBTQ+ resource in Savannah is Savannah Pride Center on Abercorn Street. It is a nonprofit run largely by volunteers and describes itself as the only LGBTQIA+ center in the state of Georgia. The center works as a meeting place, an advocacy group and a service provider at once, and it serves people from across the wider Savannah region.

Health is a major focus. The center runs a clinic where appointments and exams are free and lab work is low-cost. Services include STI testing, PrEP and PEP, hormone replacement therapy, gynecology and general check-ups. The center also keeps a resource directory and a directory of LGBTQ-friendly businesses, publishes a community calendar and organizes the annual Savannah Pride Festival in October. For nightlife, the name to know is Club One, the long-running downtown gay club made famous by the entertainer The Lady Chablis. The club has left its old home at the corner of Bay and Jefferson Streets and is moving into a new space on Williamson Street. Check the club's website to see whether the new location has opened. Club One is also a stage for cabaret, burlesque and drag, including the alternative drag collective House of Gunt.

Savannah has no gay sauna, and apart from Club One there is no dedicated gay bar in the city. Many bars and restaurants in the historic district draw a mixed crowd and are generally open to everyone. For a bigger scene with more bars and clubs, Atlanta is the nearest large city in Georgia. In Savannah itself, the Pride Center's calendar is the best place to find community events throughout the year.
