Provincetown - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Provincetown's queer venues sit close together along Commercial Street, which runs the length of town beside the harbor, and in the short lanes off it. The Provincetown Business Guild (PBG), the association of LGBTQ+ owned and allied businesses, is the first place to look for the event calendar. It runs Pride, Carnival and Holly Folly.

The Atlantic House at 4–6 Masonic Place is a tavern whose building dates to the eighteenth century and is considered the oldest gay bar in the country. It has three spaces: the Little Bar, the Macho Bar for the leather and Levi's crowd, and a dance club. It is the only gay nightclub on Cape Cod that stays open all year.

Crown & Anchor at 247 Commercial Street combines a hotel with several venues. Paramount is the largest nightclub in town and sits on the waterfront. The complex also has the Wave video bar, a cabaret stage for drag and comedy, The Vault for leather and fetish, and The Central House restaurant.

The Boatslip at 161 Commercial Street is a waterfront hotel best known for its afternoon Tea Dance on the pool deck. The Gifford House at 9 Carver Street is a gay-owned inn with the Porch Bar on the second floor and the Purgatory dance club in the basement. The Porch Bar stays open in the off-season.

The themed weeks shape the year as much as the bars do. Women's Week in October is the longest-running lesbian cultural event in the Northeast, and TransWeek follows right after it. Bear Week in summer and Spooky Bear in autumn are aimed at the bear community. A memorial in town honors those who died of AIDS. Many guesthouses are LGBTQ+ owned and list themselves with the guild.
