About the LGBT Scene in Neubrandenburg
Neubrandenburg's queer scene has one clear center: the Papagei Gaybar, the city's only permanent gay bar/disco, open Tuesday to Saturday from 6 pm. Earlier versions of this text named places like “Regenbogen Bar” or “Lila Oase” instead. Those don't exist, and the real scene is smaller, but it's concrete.
During the day, the Torcafé near the Friedländer Tor serves as a queer-friendly spot for coffee and quieter conversation. For counseling, workshops, and community, the Initiative Rosa-Lila on Tilly-Schanzen-Straße is the city's central point of contact; it has also been a target of far-right protests in the past, a reminder that queer visibility here doesn't go uncontested. The local initiative queerNB rounds things out with its own events and social media networking, though without a venue of its own. It works more as a network than as a place.
There's no gay sauna in Neubrandenburg, nor a park with particular significance to the scene. Earlier claims about a “Pride Park” or cruising areas inside a sauna can't be substantiated and don't correspond to any real place in the city.
For bigger parties or a wider choice of venues, Rostock or Berlin are the nearest options. Within the city itself, the Papagei Gaybar, together with the Torcafé and Initiative Rosa-Lila, remains the reliable core of a small but real scene.
