Magdeburg - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Magdeburg's queer scene is small and shaped largely by community organisations. Anyone getting to know the city will sooner or later end up at Otto-von-Guericke-Straße 41, home of LSVD⁺ Sachsen-Anhalt and its Regenbogencafé. It is an open meeting place for people from the city and the surrounding region. During the week various groups meet here, including an open evening for everyone over 18, the circle "Mitten im Leben" for queer people over 30, a group for FLINTA* and activities for queer young people. The centre also has a queer library with more than 500 titles to borrow and a counselling service that helps with coming out, discrimination and questions around trans and inter identities.

For a night out, Boys'n'Beats at Liebknechtstraße 89 in the Stadtfeld district is the established address. For more than twenty years the club has described itself as a place for gays and friends. At weekends it hosts themed parties and drag performers, with a mixed crowd on the dance floor.

The Centre for Sexual Health run by Aidshilfe Sachsen-Anhalt Nord at Herderstraße 17 offers counselling as well as testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

The association behind the local Christopher Street Day organises the annual Pride and further events throughout the year. The city also holds a piece of history: Magnus Hirschfeld opened his first medical practice in Magdeburg. Today a memorial plaque in the city centre and the Magnus-Hirschfeld-Weg in the Neue Neustadt district recall him.

Magdeburg has no dedicated gay sauna and no real bar district. Queer life happens in the association's rooms, at the club and around Pride. The group evenings at the Regenbogencafé are the easiest way to meet people.
