Queer nightlife in Fresno comes down to two streets. In the Tower District, the closest thing the city has to a gayborhood, three venues sit within walking distance of each other on Olive Avenue: Splash Fresno, which bills itself as the Central Valley's premier LGBTQ+ bar and nightclub, along with FAB and Vibez Lounge. Three addresses in a row is unusual in a city this spread out.
The second axis is Belmont Avenue on the east side. The Red Lantern stands there, the city's longest continuously running gay bar and more neighbourhood pub than club: regulars, manageable volume, a friendly reception for strangers. A few doors along sits Alibi, with a patio, a pool table and karaoke.
Fresno has no sauna or bathhouse. Anyone looking for one will not find it in the city.
The Tower District is worth a daytime visit too. Around the Tower Theater, a landmarked Art Deco cinema that gave the district its name, you will find cafés, small stages, bookshops and restaurants. The streets are walkable, which is rarely true anywhere else in Fresno. The city's Pride parade also runs through this neighbourhood.
One planning note: the scene is small and in flux. Club Legends, a fixture of the nightlife for years, has since closed. It pays to check the bars' social media before heading out, because opening hours and themed nights shift.
