Dallas - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

The heart of the queer scene in Dallas is Oak Lawn, and more precisely Cedar Springs Road. Several of the city's best-known bars sit just a few steps apart here, and many of them have been around for decades.

JR.'s Bar & Grill has been open for more than forty years and, with its drag shows and patio, is one of the main meeting points on the strip. Across the street is the Round-Up Saloon, a country-western club with a dance floor, line dancing and several bars under one roof. On the corner of Throckmorton Street stands Station 4, or S4, the largest club in Oak Lawn; its Rose Room is a stage dedicated to drag. A little off the main drag, on Bowser Avenue, the Hidden Door is a laid-back dive bar popular with bears and the leather crowd.

The city's best-known bathhouse is Club Dallas on Swiss Avenue, east of downtown. It is open around the clock and has a steam room, dry sauna and pool.

For counseling, health services and community events, there is the Resource Center on Cedar Springs Road, a large LGBTQ+ organization with its own community center.

Oak Lawn is best explored on foot. Bars, restaurants and shops line Cedar Springs Road, and on weekends the street stays busy late into the night.
