South America has made significant progress in LGBTQ+ rights in recent years. Argentina was the first country in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage in 2010, followed by Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Ecuador.
São Paulo Pride in Brazil is one of the largest Pride events worldwide with millions of participants. Buenos Aires, Bogotá and Santiago de Chile also have vibrant LGBTQ+ scenes. Despite legal progress, the community in many regions still struggles with social discrimination and violence.
