About the LGBT Scene in North America

North America, especially the USA and Canada, has played a significant role in the global LGBTQ+ movement. The Stonewall riots in New York in 1969 are considered the birth of the modern Pride movement. Canada was one of the first countries in the world to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide in 2005.

Today, some of the largest Pride parades in the world take place in cities like New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Montréal. Mexico is showing increasing progress, with the legalization of same-sex marriage in many states and a growing Pride scene in Mexico City and Guadalajara.
