Omaha - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Omaha's queer map is small. Three bars form the core, alongside an LGBTQ+ center and the Pride organization. There is no recognized gay neighborhood; most of the addresses sit in the Old Market and nearby parts of downtown.

The Max on Jackson Street in the Old Market is the best-known spot. It is a large dance club spread over several levels, with a lounge, pool tables and a big patio, drawing a mixed crowd. Flixx on South 10th Street in Little Italy is an LGBTQ-owned cabaret bar with drag shows on Friday and Saturday and trivia and karaoke during the week. Omaha Mining Company on Leavenworth Street is the oldest gay bar in the city, a cheap, no-frills place with a loyal crowd. Its basement, The Mineshaft, opens on scheduled nights for the leather, gear and bear crowd.

Away from the bars, Omaha ForUs runs an LGBTQ+ center on North 107th Street in the northwest of the city. It describes itself as a community space for LGBTQ+ people and their families across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Heartland Pride, the nonprofit behind the city's summer Pride, also keeps an online directory of LGBTQ-friendly businesses, health providers and organizations in the metro area, which is a useful starting point before a visit.

No gay sauna or bathhouse is documented in Omaha, and there is no dedicated lesbian bar either. Much of the social calendar runs through the three bars and Pride events.
