Eichstätt - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Eichstätt has no queer scene of its own with bars, cafés or clubs. There is no rainbow-decorated bar in the old town, no queer café on the Marktplatz and no hidden club. The town also has no sauna with a cruising area and no queer community centre. Eichstätt is a small university and cathedral town in the Altmühl valley, and queer life here happens mostly in private and through groups.

The main local contact is AK Queer, the queer student group of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. It meets during the semester on the third Wednesday of every month. The group aims to offer a safer space where people can try things out, talk to other queer students and make friends. Everyone is welcome, queer or ally, as long as they bring respect and openness. More is on offer in Ingolstadt. The association Queer Ingolstadt e.V. runs a regular get-together, a trans meetup, group walks called Walk & Talk and Ingolstadt Pride. For the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia in May, it hosts an evening together with the city of Ingolstadt, the municipal theatre and the trade union Verdi. Eichstätt has no dedicated queer counselling centre. Students can turn to the university's equality and diversity services for support. For bars, clubs and saunas with a queer crowd, the nearest options are in Munich and Nuremberg. In Eichstätt itself, the student group and the association in Ingolstadt are the most reliable ways to meet other queer people.
