Perth - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Perth's queer venues are concentrated in Northbridge, the nightlife district just north of the city centre. The choice of permanent venues is small, but the two that matter most have a long history.

The Court Hotel on Beaufort Street has been a home for the city's LGBTQ+ community since the early nineties and describes itself as a venue for everyone. It is more than a pub: six bars, three dance floors and outdoor seating, plus a kitchen. During the day and early evening people come for food or a drink, later there are DJs and drag shows, and on some weekends a drag brunch.

Connections on James Street is the scene's nightclub, gay owned and managed, with a mixed crowd. Besides the dance floor it has a rooftop terrace that fills up on warm nights. If you want to talk rather than dance, The Court suits you better; if you want to party until morning, head to Connections.

A lot of queer life in Perth happens through community groups. Pride WA runs PrideFEST in November and also offers rooms for community organisations. Groups connected to that network include the running club Perth Frontrunners, the peer group Bi+ Community Perth and the initiative TransFAIR Perth. If you are new in town or only staying a few days, these groups are often an easier way to meet people than a bar.
