Kaiserslautern - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Kaiserslautern has no dedicated gay or queer bar, club or sauna. The usual gay travel guides list no queer venues for the city. Queer life here is organized mainly through community groups rather than commercial venues, and that is also where visitors are most likely to make contacts.

The longest-standing group is lauterjungs und -mädels e.V. The association campaigns for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and other queer people in Kaiserslautern and the surrounding area and offers regular meetings and leisure activities. These include a games night, a group for people over forty, a trans meet-up and Café Q for young people aged fourteen to eighteen. The meetings take place at the premises of Profamilia Kaiserslautern; the association's online calendar lists the current dates.

The second important organization is Queeres Zentrum Kaiserslautern e.V., a registered non-profit association. It organizes the city's Pride, which takes place on Schillerplatz with a march, a stage programme and information stands. The association also runs an organizing team with regular meetings that is open to new volunteers.

lauterjungs also points to QueerNet Rheinland-Pfalz, the statewide network of queer initiatives, for contacts to groups elsewhere in the state.

Anyone looking for a wider choice of bars and clubs will have to travel to a larger city in the region.
