Chapiteau in Düsseldorf is an event venue shaped like a round circus tent, in operation for over 25 years and known as “the slightly different circus tent”. Across roughly 450 square metres it hosts weddings, corporate parties and birthdays, alongside regular music and dance nights such as over-30s and over-40s parties, schlager nights and a Halloween event. The tent is run by Michael Giesen under the name Chapiteau Eventlocation.
For Düsseldorf's queer scene, Chapiteau is best known as the venue for “Zuckerwatte”, an over-30s party for LGBTQ+ people and friends built around 70s, 80s and 90s music. Although the dates are irregular, the party has become a fixture of Düsseldorf's queer calendar and is listed by local LGBTQ+ media too. The tent doesn't run a continuous queer programme, but it does host one of the city's better-known recurring party series for an older queer crowd.
