The German Sports and Olympic Museum in Cologne's Rheinauhafen is a captivating cultural destination that guides visitors through more than 2500 years of sports history. Located in a historic customs warehouse directly on the Rhine, the museum spans over 2000 square meters and showcases more than 2000 original artifacts from a collection of 120,000 objects. From ancient athletics to German gymnastics traditions and contemporary professional sports, every aspect of sports is presented in a dynamic and engaging manner.
The museum distinguishes itself through interactive stations and activity areas where visitors can participate hands-on. A particular highlight features two sports courts on the rooftop—Cologne's highest-altitude sports facilities—offering spectacular views of Cologne Cathedral, the Severins Bridge, and the Rhine. Visitors can play football, tennis, or basketball while enjoying this panoramic setting. Regular special exhibitions complement the permanent collection, providing both contemporary and historical perspectives on sports culture and achievement.
