Bollwerk Cologne sits right on the Hohenzollernring, one of the city's best-known nightlife strips, in a space with a long clubbing history: the rooms previously housed the Cologne institutions Tiefenrausch and Moracco. Following a thorough renovation, the venue now operates as a techno club with a raw concrete look, modern lighting and sound systems, and room for several hundred guests. On Friday and Saturday nights, resident and guest DJs take over from late evening onward, and the crowd is mixed, explicitly including the queer scene from along the Ring. Alongside the main floor, Bollwerk also hosts live music and a changing programme of formats, from club nights to smaller concerts. Its central location right in the heart of Cologne's nightlife makes it easy to combine a visit with the other bars and clubs along the Ring.
