Das Werk is an alternative arts and culture centre housed in the arches of a former urban railway line along the Danube Canal. Its two floors host concerts, parties, exhibitions, theatre and readings, while the association behind it also rents out studios to artists and offers seminar and rehearsal rooms. The look is deliberately raw and improvised, true to the Viennese underground scene the venue grew out of.
Weekends are dominated by parties featuring DJs from the local electronic music scene. The organisation running the space explicitly commits to a non-discrimination policy, including on sexual orientation and gender identity, and describes itself as a safer space for everyone. A dedicated queer party series or a regular queer crowd is not clearly documented at this point – Das Werk positions itself as an open, inclusive venue for the wider alternative culture scene rather than a queer-specific one.
