Alte Feuerwache is a cultural centre in Mannheim, housed in a historic former fire station. It hosts around 200 concerts a year, focused on jazz, hip-hop, rock and pop, alongside readings, exhibitions, poetry and science slams, theatre and parties. Run by a non-profit association with an explicit commitment to an awareness policy, the venue holds about 1,000 people. It has its own café-bar attached, and in summer Alte Feuerwache also runs an outdoor stage in front of the building.
For Mannheim's queer scene, the venue is a regular fixture. The last Saturday of every month brings “Himbeerparty”, a house and dance night for a gay audience and friends. “Queerlactica”, run in cooperation with the Queer Centre Mannheim, is another recurring event on the programme. Alte Feuerwache isn't a dedicated queer club, but rather a cultural venue where queer party series have a firmly established place.
