Renate, officially Salon zur Wilden Renate, is housed in a converted residential building near Ostkreuz in Friedrichshain, with every room decorated down to the last detail. The Schwarzer Raum on the ground floor runs techno, the Grüner Raum above leans into house, while the Roter Raum plays slower, weirder, more trance-like disco. The crowd is famously colourful, glittery and international, and the venue is especially known for queer, sex-positive party series like TrashEra and House of Lunacy. An active awareness team keeps racism, sexism and homophobia off the floor — Renate positions itself explicitly as a safe space for any ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. A cocktail bar and a garden, open through summer, plus its own record label round out the picture. Anyone after winding rooms, shifting genres and a relaxed, open attitude will feel at home here.
