About the LGBT Scene in Zagreb

Zagreb's queer scene is compact: a handful of established bars, a café and a sauna, rather than a dedicated gay district. In the Lower Town, near Petrinjska Street, HotPot is the city's main gathering point, one of the few venues in Croatia built specifically for a queer crowd, open Friday and Saturday nights with a basement dance floor.

For a calmer daytime or early-evening stop, Kolaž on Amruševa Street works well: a café by day, a mixed bar by night, with a relaxed, queer-friendly crowd and occasional live music. Visitors who prefer books to bar stools can head to Booksa, a literary café that has become a steady meeting point for the local LGBTQ+ community over the years, with readings and discussion nights on the calendar.

Zagreb's only gay sauna, Sauna Centar near Prilaz Gjure Deželića, has a steam room, dry sauna and jacuzzi along with themed evenings. It usually opens Wednesday through Sunday in the evening, though hours shift now and then, so it's worth checking before you go.

These few addresses sit close together in the Lower Town and are easy to combine on foot. There is no long-established gay neighborhood here the way there is in some Western European capitals; the scene is small and word travels fast among locals. Newcomers do best checking the venues' own social media and Zagreb Pride's channels for current details, since names and hours in this young scene change more than visitors might expect.
