About the LGBT Scene in Tampere

Tampere's queer venue scene centres on one place: Mixei in the Tammela district, Finland's oldest gay bar. A cosy bar downstairs, a dance floor and stage upstairs, with the programme shifting by night, from karaoke to DJ sets.

No dedicated gay sauna or second established queer café is documented for Tampere. Instead, the community relies on Pirkanmaa Seta, one of the oldest and largest regional branches of the national Seta organisation, which runs a helpline, counselling services, and the rainbow party series Leimarit several times a year.

Once a year, Pirkanmaa Pride brings extra visibility to the city with a parade and supporting programme. The rest of the year, the scene stays concentrated on a few reliable fixtures rather than a wide spread of bars and cafés.

For visitors, that means starting with Mixei, then checking for upcoming Leimarit or Pride dates, rather than expecting a large choice of addresses.
