Oxford's queer scene comes down to a handful of real addresses. At its centre is The Jolly Farmers on Paradise Street, long the city's best-known LGBTQ+ pub. For club nights there is Plush Oxford on Cornmarket Street and the newer club Glamorous on St Clement's Street.
A 'Turtle Café' as a queer daytime spot cannot be confirmed, and neither can an 'Oxford Sauna' with a cruising area — specialist directories explicitly state that Oxford has no gay sauna. The Royal Blenheim, a queer pub in the 2000s, is no longer run as one under its current management either.
Parks along the River Thames as active cruising areas are likewise unconfirmed. Oxford's only documented historic cruising spot, Parson's Pleasure on the River Cherwell, has been closed for a long time and does not belong in a present-tense description.
What remains is modest but reliable: one pub with real history and two clubs for party nights, no sauna, no active cruising spots.
