Nottingham - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Nottingham's queer scene is small but easy to get around: the main addresses are in the city centre and within walking distance of each other. Broad Street in Hockley is known as the city's queer street. It has rainbow crossings, a transgender clinic, the record shop Rough Trade, the Broadway independent cinema and The Lord Roberts bar.

The Lord Roberts at 24 Broad Street calls itself a friendly LGBT+ bar and is the first stop for many.

A few minutes' walk north, at 18 St Ann's Street behind the Victoria Centre, is The New Foresters. It is described as Nottingham's oldest LGBT+ bar and is gay-run.

During the day, The Pride Shop at 65 Maid Marian Way is worth a visit. This LGBTQ+-run business combines a shop with a small coffee and cake café and is a relaxed place to meet people from the community.

Club nights come from Gladrags, among others, a queer night that moves between venues such as Popworld and Rough Trade. Dates are posted on its Facebook page.

For advice and contacts, Notts LGBT+ Network is the place to go. The registered charity runs a phone and text helpline, connects people with social and support groups and keeps a list of LGBT+ bars and venues. Once a year, on a Saturday at the end of July, Nottinghamshire Pride stages Notts Pride, with a march and stages at Sneinton Market.
