Saunas dominate Nancy's modest queer scene. Sauna La Détente has run in the city center for about 20 years, men-only, with a dry sauna, hammam, a relaxation lounge with a big screen, and an alcohol-free bar. Sauna 51, in nearby Laxou, welcomes the whole LGBT+ community, with a hammam, cuddle corners, video rooms and a sling. L'Unik combines sauna and bar: open to men on weekdays and to all queer guests on weekends, each evening from 8pm to 2am.
No fixed gay bars with a regular, ongoing program are currently documented for Nancy. The scene here is noticeably smaller than in nearby Strasbourg or Metz, but the city benefits from its proximity to Germany: it's about two hours by car from Saarbrücken or Karlsruhe.
The historic center around Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the natural starting point for a visit; all three saunas listed here sit within the city or close by, and are easy to reach by bus or tram. For a short trip, Nancy pairs well with nearby Metz, about 40 minutes away by train, which has its own scene, though a similarly small one. Both saunas generally accept card payment, though carrying some cash is a sensible backup.
