About the LGBT Scene in Lucerne
Lucerne has no classic gay bar and no gay sauna. Queer life here revolves mainly around associations, cultural events and health services. The scene is small and largely run by volunteers.
A permanent point of contact is S&X Sexuelle Gesundheit Zentralschweiz, the sexual health centre for Central Switzerland, on Museggstrasse at the edge of the old town. It offers rapid HIV tests, anonymous if you wish, and STI checks, as well as counselling and follow-up care for PrEP. For men who have sex with men there is Checkpoint Luzern, which can also take over PrEP care. The centre also runs a counselling service for trans and non-binary people and their families.
On the cultural side, the PinkPanorama film festival is the city's most important queer event. Every November it screens queer features and documentaries over several days at the stattkino in the Bourbaki building on Löwenplatz. The festival has a long history.
The association Pride Zentralschweiz is the leading voice in politics and public life. It organises Pride in Lucerne and community events across Central Switzerland. The City of Lucerne is a member of the international Rainbow Cities Network.
If you want to connect with locals, the Pride association or S&X are good places to start. Zurich offers a much wider choice of bars and clubs. If you are planning a visit, it is worth timing it around PinkPanorama or the Pride weekend in late summer, when the community is at its most visible.
