Queer Space is a community center for Heidelberg's queer scene, located at Karlstor and run by the association Queer Space Heidelberg. The place sees itself as a safe space for queer people of all ages and keeps its doors open on a regular basis. An open café on Sundays invites people to stop by and get to know each other, alongside monthly community meetings. More than thirty queer groups use the rooms free of charge for their own activities, ranging from peer support and education to cultural events, from quiet discussion circles to open parties. Queer Space grew out of the Queer Network Heidelberg, which wanted a fixed meeting point for a scene that had previously been scattered across many separate initiatives. Inside the former Karlstor cinema, people who often find little visibility elsewhere meet as equals. Anyone new to the city, or simply looking to spend time with people who share similar experiences, finds an easy way into Heidelberg's queer community here.
