About Astra Essen
- Culture
Located in the heart of Essen's city center, Astra Theater is a distinctive art house cinema that preserves the charm and architectural character of the 1950s. The theater's most striking feature is its unusually round auditorium, crowned by a distinctive petal-shaped chandelier that creates an unforgettable atmosphere. With 346 seats and both digital and 35mm projection capabilities, the venue seamlessly blends classic elegance with modern cinema technology.
Astra Theater specializes in premiere screenings, independent films, and original-language productions. The cinema regularly hosts special programming, including French films in their original versions with subtitles. The smaller Luna hall accommodates private screenings and special events. Visitors benefit from discounted admission every Monday. Situated just minutes from the main train station, Astra Theater serves as an accessible cultural destination for cinema enthusiasts seeking quality film programming in an authentic vintage setting.
