Cádiz - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

Cádiz has a small queer scene, and almost all of it is in the old town, which sits on a narrow peninsula in the Atlantic. Everything is within walking distance.

The best-known meeting point is Pub Poniente on Calle Beato Diego de Cádiz, a bar that fills up mostly on weekends. Also in the old town, on Calle Doctor Zurita, is Pub La Luna. As everywhere in Andalusia, nights start late, and both bars are quiet before midnight.

The common gay travel guides do not list any other queer bars, cafés or a gay sauna in Cádiz. Most bars and restaurants in town have a mixed crowd. Cádiz is known in Spain as an open, relaxed city, and its carnival, where cross-dressing has been part of the fun for generations, shapes how the city sees itself.

The local LGBTQ+ association ARCADIA works for the rights of gay men and lesbians and offers counseling. The city itself organizes Pride in June, the “Orgullo de Cadi Cadi”, with a march from the Paseo Marítimo along the Campo del Sur to the Plaza de la Catedral and a full week of events.

Anyone looking for more choice can head to Seville, about an hour and a half north by car. Most visitors come to Cádiz for its beaches, its old town and its food, and the queer bars make a good end to the day.
