Bucharest - Guide for Gays, Lesbians and Queers

The main point of contact for queer people in Bucharest is Asociația ACCEPT. Its office and community space, Casa ACCEPT, is at Strada Lirei 10 in Sector 2. The association offers legal advice, psychotherapy and support groups, including groups for trans people, for parents of queer children and for aromantic and asexual people. Trans people can also get help with transition. On top of that, ACCEPT runs community events and campaigns and takes strategic cases to court.

The city's second large association is MozaiQ. It works on family life, education, health and political participation, organises activities around Pride and speaks out publicly against anti-LGBTQ bills and hate messages.

Commercial venues are few. Soho Sauna at Strada Fabrica de Chibrituri 46, in the historic centre, is described as the first gay sauna in Romania. It has two floors and a basement with a steam room, a dry sauna and a jacuzzi. There are only a handful of dedicated gay bars, and they change often. Most nightlife is in the Old Town, Centru Vechi, where many bars draw a mixed crowd.

During Pride week in June, a garden on Strada I. L. Caragiale becomes the Pride Hub, a daily meeting point with its own programme. The festival ends with Pride Park in Izvor Park, close to the Palace of the Parliament.

In daily life, queer spaces in Bucharest keep a low profile. Many people are reserved in public, and contacts often come through association activities, friends or dating apps. For newcomers, the groups and events run by ACCEPT are the easiest way to meet people in the city.
