About the LGBT Scene in Santiago
Santiago's queer scene is large and easy to map. Its center is Bellavista, the nightlife district at the foot of Cerro San Cristóbal between Recoleta and Providencia. Most of the city's gay bars sit close together here, especially on Bombero Núñez street.
Among the best-known spots is Bar 105, a hangout for bears and the leather crowd. Nearby you will find several bars with drag shows, comedy and cocktails, plus Club Limón on Dardignac street, which is open every day of the year.
Two classics lie outside Bellavista. Fausto on Avenida Santa María in Providencia is one of the oldest gay discos in Latin America and is famous for its drag pageants. Blondie on the Alameda draws a mixed crowd with alternative parties across several floors.
Santiago also has several gay saunas, spread between Bellavista and the older neighborhoods west of downtown such as Barrio Brasil and Barrio Yungay. Current addresses are listed in the main gay travel guides.
For support and community, Chile has strong LGBTQ+ organizations. Movilh, the Movimiento de Integración y Liberación Homosexual, is the best known and, together with Fundación Iguales, calls the annual Pride march. Held in June, it runs from Plaza Baquedano along the Alameda past La Moneda presidential palace and is one of the largest Pride marches in Latin America.
