Two saunas anchor most of Rennes' queer scene: Sauna California, spread across three floors and roughly 800 square meters just five minutes from the main train station, on Rue de Léon, open daily from noon, and Sauna Carré Rouge, with a hammam, TV lounge, video rooms, a fully licensed bar, a smoking room, a maze and XXL cabins.
No fixed gay bars with a regular, ongoing program are currently documented for Rennes; for bars and meeting spots, current LGBTQ+ city guides are the better reference, since that side of the scene tends to change faster than the saunas.
Rennes is the largest city in Brittany, known for its historic center of half-timbered houses around Place Sainte-Anne and for the Marché des Lices, one of France's largest markets. The city is about 90 minutes from Paris by TGV and makes a good base for day trips along the Breton coast, including Saint-Malo.
Both saunas sit centrally and are easy to reach on foot or by bus from the station. Cyclists can use the city's Vélo-Star bike-share scheme to get between the station, the old town and the surrounding districts. Weekdays tend to be quieter at both saunas than weekends. Reservations usually aren't necessary at either.
