21 saunas in 13 cities
A third of English saunas are located in London, three more in Brighton. The rest are spread across the country in individual pieces, conspicuously often on the south coast — Plymouth, Exeter and Bournemouth each have an address.
Brighton is the real eye-catcher. Three houses in a city of this size stand for a scene that has shaped the place for decades; Brighton is also on a par with London in terms of hotels.
Five addresses are permanently closed, a quarter of the current stock. If you are looking for a name from the past, you should therefore check whether the house still exists before driving. This page does not provide a verified classification of the legal situation for England.
England is balanced across the categories: 21 saunas, nine gay hotels, eight cruising addresses. Hardly any other country is so evenly distributed among all three, and Brighton appears far ahead in two of them.
